Seismic fault lines within the park

A network of active faults cut across the Southern California and the Mojave desert region. Joshua Tree National Park is located northeast of Palm Springs.

The gray line that runs east-west just north of Palm Springs represents Interstate 10. The gray line that intersects with I-10 at the yellow dot represents Highway 62. The area between I-10 and Highway 62 represents the western portion of the park.

The thick red line that runs from San Bernadino through Palm Springs represents the infamous San Andreas Fault Line. If you visit Keys View (with an elevation of 5,185 feet) in the park, you can see the Coachella Valley (the Palm Springs area) and the San Andreas Fault Line.
